FRO AWEL COTTAGE

A grade ii listed stone cottage at the foothills of cadair idris.

From our family to yours, we welcome you to Fro Awel.  This beautiful cottage was built in the early 1700’s and is Grade II listed with plenty of stories to tell.  Fro Awel is a traditional Welsh vernacular and is known as a “Storey and a half” tall – beware some of the door frames are a little low! Situated a stone’s throw from Dolgellau town centre, you’ll find everything you need for your North Wales Holiday; sit back and relax, or go grab that adrenaline rush, it’s all here, waiting to be discovered. The area is steeped in history, and so is the house; The barn at the back of Fro Awel once housed the candle factory that supplied light to the miners of The Bontddu Gold Mine in the 1800’s.

The house has 3 bedrooms and can sleep up to 6 adults.  A travel cot is provided too, so no need to worry about space for your mini adventurers.

THE KITCHEN

Fully equipped kitchen with utensils, cookware and bakeware for 6 people.
Applicances include a Dishwasher, Fridge/Freezer, Microwave, Toaster, Kettle, Electric Oven, Ceramic hob and a Washer/Dryer

THE LOUNGE

The relaxation zone has a book swap cabinet, games, puzzles and plenty of comfy seating.  Sit back and enjoy the smart T.V. and free WiFi.  The fireplace and huge Bressumer are ready for log fires to warm your bones after a day out climbing, walking, biking, hiking or doing absolutely nothing on your Welsh staycation.

THE BATHROOM

The bathroom comprises a traditional style claw foot bath, a separate shower enclosure and a wash basin and mirror.  Towels are provided for guests to use in the house, please don’t take them on adventures with you…bring your own for getting mucky.

THE BEDROOMS

There are three bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 6 adults; a Kingsize with room for the travel cot (provided), a Double and finally a twin room with two single beds.  All bedrooms have either a wardrobe or chest of drawers for your belongings. Blankets and extra pillows are available should you need them.

THE DINER

The diner is open plan, sharing the space with the kitchen and is a great communal area.  The table seats 6 people and can be extended to accommodate 8 if required.  A toddler booster seat is available for your little one.

THE GARDEN

The mature garden is lawned with an abundance of flowers throughout the year.  The seating area awaits, so you can unwind in the evening whilst listening to the rhythm of the Afon Arran as it flows gently along the end of the garden.

THE BARN

During renovations, the original door was discovered that led to the candle factory from inside the main house. You can see this behind the TV in the lounge.

THE RIVER

Afon (River) Arran meanders through Dolgellau, right past Fro Awel and can be enjoyed from the garden.  It rises on the slopes of Mynydd Moel and is fed by Llyn (Lake) Arran. Its journey comes to an end when it meets the Afon Wnion, which is a great river for kayaking.

THE PARKING

2 dedicated on site parking spaces with plenty of room to unload luggage and sports equipment.  Parking in Dolgellau can be tricky, but you don’t need to worry – we’ve got you covered.
